Visit the Mobile Service Centre on Thursday, 7th December at the Moora Swimming Pool car park, from 9am-3.30pm, to find out about Australian Government payments and services for rural families, older Australians, students, job seekers, people with disability, carers, farmers and self-employed people. Information about Department of Veterans’ Affairs programs and support services for veterans and their families will also be available.

The Shire of Moora, at the close of nominations on the 7th September received three nominations for the upcoming October 2023 election. As there were three vacancies, the nominees were elected unopposed, therefore there will be no Local Government Election Postal required on Saturday 21st October.

The Shire of Moora is reminding residents and travellers to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites over the coming months. Kunjin virus has been detected in Moora for the first time since 2017, through the Department of Health’s sentinel chicken surveillance program, which provides early warning of virus activity within the environment.

On the 29th of June a group of excited kids from the Childcare Centre visited the Moora Police Station to thank them for their service to our community, and to give them a handprint painting they had made. The kids had fun exploring the Station, learning about police cars and equipment, and asking lots of questions about being a Police Officer. A big thank you to the Moora Police Station for all that you do and for spending this time with the kids!

New Lighting Towers Installed at Moora Sport and Recreation Grounds
Posted 28 June 2023 New Lighting Towers Installed at Moora Sport and Recreation Grounds

A long-running project came into fruition this week, with the installation and official launch of the flood-lighting upgrade at the Moora Sport and Recreation Grounds. Four 28-metre-high lighting poles can now be seen towering over the oval – providing 100 lux LED compliant AFL floodlighting for club competition level of play. The lights were installed by Stiles Electrical Services, a Perth-based company responsible for the Matagarup Bridge (between Optus Stadium and East Perth) and Elizabeth Quay lighting, as well as over a dozen sports light projects including the Subiaco Oval redevelopment, Carlisle Oval, and Kingsway sporting complex.

On Friday 9th June, representatives from local government and state sporting associations gathered in Moora, to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing sport in the Wheatbelt. The forum began with an opening and Welcome to Country by Kim Sharpe, Regional Officer of Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, followed by an address by the Shire of Moora’s Amy Watts - who discussed sport in the Shire and its plans for sport and recreation in the future.

Gardiner Street Works

Tree and kerbing removal and drainage works on Gardiner Street commenced on Thursday 20th April, and will be completed by May 12th. Following completion of stage one (mentioned above), Main Roads resurfacing works will commence. Kerbing will be replaced once road resurfacing has been completed. Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program

Last week we accommodated 22 Curtin University students as part of the 2023 Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program by Rural Health West. The students had a busy week visiting the Moora Museum, St John Ambulance Sub Centre, Stephanie Mippy at Candy’s Bush Reserve, Gardener Street Arts Collective Community Garden, St Joseph's Primary School, Moora Districts Childcare Centre, and the Carers' WA Van at the Moora CRC. They also enjoyed a BBQ at the Men’s Shed, a Teddy Bear Hospital at the Moora Primary School, a visit and health services panel discussion from our local doctors, and a wonderful farm visit hosted

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION - Gardiner Street, Moora

The Shire of Moora is working with Main Roads to resurface and repair Gardiner Street, between Atbara and Dargai Streets. Tree roots have damaged the road surface and are causing safety issues and noise for residents. To repair the road, trees on both sides of the road and in the central median within this area of Gardiner Street need to be removed by the Shire.The Shire has considered alternative options, such as installing root guards, however due to the proximity between the trees and the road it is not viable. The road will be revegetated with suitable plantings in due course. If you have any feedback or questions, please contact the Shire on 9651 0000 before 6 April 2023.

The Shire’s Councillors have unanimously endorsed the CEO Recruitment Panel's recommendation to engage Gavin Robins as the Shire's CEO for a period of five years. Shire President Tracy Lefroy said she was delighted with the appointment. "Gavin has shown strong leadership and a clear vision as he has served as the Acting CEO during the past 12 months, and as Deputy CEO for the two years prior to this. We are looking forward to continuing our work with Gavin, as we see our many exciting projects come into fruition that will continue to position Moora as a regional leader and place of opportunity," she said.
