Active Ageing

The Shire of Moora completed an Age Friendly Community Study with funding received from the Department for Communities.

The project is based World Health Organisation's Age Friendly Cities methodology and aimed to ascertain whether Moora was an Age Friendly Community in relation to:

  • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
  • Transportation
  • Respect and Inclusion
  • Social Participation
  • Communication and Information
  • Civic participation and Employment
  • Community Support and Health Services

Findings from the community and service provider consultations indicate that generally older people are active and enjoy living in Moora and that Moora is an 'Age Friendly Community'.

The information gathered as part of the Age Friendly Communities Study has been utilised to generate 4 strategies. Funding will be sought to facilitate the implementation of the strategies over the next 12 months to enable the Shire of Moora to develop the: Shire of Moora Aged Friendly Communities Plan 2013-2018.
