Parks & Gardens – Leading Hand
The Shire of Moora is seeking the services of a proactive, reliable and motivated person to fill the position of Parks & Gardens – Leading Hand within Council’s Engineering Services team.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, supervision and participation in gardening and horticultural activities across the Shire. The role provides on-site leadership to the Parks & Gardens team, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to an appropriate standard, while maintaining Council’s parks, reserves and public open spaces in a safe, attractive and serviceable condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the Parks & Gardens team.
- Allocate tasks, provide on-the-job guidance and monitor work performance and quality.
- Participate in operational horticultural and maintenance works as required.
- Ensure compliance with WHS policies, safe work procedures and environmental practices.
- Assist with planning, scheduling and prioritising works to meet operational timeframes.
- Liaise with supervisors, contractors and other Council staff as required.
- Report maintenance issues, resource needs and operational matters to the Supervisor.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in horticultural and grounds maintenance activities, including safe work practices, herbicide application, lawn maintenance and irrigation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise staff, including task allocation and on-the-job training.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear direction and feedback.
- Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
- Satisfactory physical fitness and ability to undertake manual work in varying weather conditions.
- Current C Class Australian Driver’s Licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Certificate III or higher in Horticulture or a related discipline
- HR Driver’s Licence
- Previous experience in a local government environment
Employment is contingent upon:
- Provision of a current satisfactory National Police Clearance
- Pre-Employment Medical Assessment including Drug & Alcohol Testing
