Shire of Moora Sport and Recreation Update

Dive into the Moora Swimming Pool

Initially opened in 1962, the Moora Swimming Pool is a well-utilised precinct, and many have childhood memories hanging out poolside.   After several refurbishments and upgrades over the years the Moora Swimming Pool has reached another chapter, now requiring a full condition re-assessment. Over the off season, the Moora Pool has undergone extensive testing, analysis, and reporting, including Geotechnical assessments, pressure testing, dye testing, level surveying and forensic engineering reporting.

During this time, we have been working towards redevelopment and optimisation of existing facilities to bring this infrastructure up to a modern standard befitting of a regional centre. With the season warming up, preparations for the 2021/2022 swimming pool season are well underway. We are on schedule to open the pool around a similar time as last season (early November) – once a few final compliance matters are addressed & sorted, further information will be provided as these details are confirmed. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the opening of the 2021/2022 Swimming Season.

Moora Grandstand – end of an era

Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 1 November for the dismantling of the Moora Grandstand. Prior to demolition, the grandstand will be photographed, and all memorabilia removed. To limit the disruption to community members the works will be occurring Monday – Friday and anticipated to take a few weeks. Those wishing to preserve the history of the Moora Grandstand may send any relevant photos, videos and stories to the Moora Historical Society.

Future Aspirations for Sport & Recreation in the Shire of Moora

At the recent Future Aspirations for Sport & Recreation evening, stakeholders confirmed the existing Roberts Street precinct as the preferred location for the centralisation of sporting facilities in Moora. Sporting group representatives and other community members in attendance resolved a clear directive of co-location and shared facilities, and the retention of the 50-metre public pool in its present location. Thank you to those in the community that attended the evening, providing constructive feedback and for your interest in assisting improve our Shire.
