A message from the Shire President- COVID-19

COVID-19 is a crisis that is rapidly changing our way of life. We need to work together as a community to support each other through these unprecedented times.

The impact of the COVID-19 will continue to evolve over coming weeks, most likely months. The Shire Council is working closely with management to implement strategies and initiatives which support our community financially, socially and economically.

In everything we do, Council is closely following the advice of the State and Federal governments to ensure we are part of a coordinated approach to deal with COVID-19. We must all adhere to the appropriate social distancing and hygiene measures as instructed. These directives are all aimed at minimising the impact of COVID-19.

I urge you to visit the Shire's website and Facebook page to keep well informed of changes to Shire services and facilities. Please share this information with your neighbours who may not have access to the internet.

Our community is our strength and we encourage you to support each other, stay in touch and look out for one another during this time.

The Shire’s Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) comprising of key government agencies WA Country Health, WA Police, Emergency Services, Community and Social Services have met twice and will continue to meet regularly. The LEMC are responding to the changing situation to ensure a coordinated approach to managing the pandemic crisis and leading our community through these unchartered times.

COVID-19 will have an enormous social impact on our community. This requires a whole of community response. We have seen many wonderful examples within our community, from the Moora Police delivering care packages to our vulnerable community members, to others reaching out virtually like the Moora Community Kindness Network and Moora Community Resource Centre.

If you know of someone in need of support, please get in touch with community support groups or relevant government agencies. This will ensure those who need help are identified and supported appropriately.

The business community is responding to this crisis and delivering their services and products in innovative ways. I encourage and urge you to make even more of an effort to buy locally. Our business community needs your support more than ever.

Everyone can make a difference to the impact of COVID-19 on our community.
Thank you for your understanding, support and for looking out for each other.

Cr Ken Seymour

Shire President
